The lymphatic system is part of both the vascular and the immune systems. It helps the body move toxins, waste and other unwanted materials. When lymph flow becomes sluggish (the result of stress, inflammation, poor diet, lack of exercise or surgery), toxins remain in our body longer. You may see puffiness, dull skin, dark circles, blackheads, or water retention, or feel tenderness and swelling around your lymph nodes. Healthy lymph flow is restored via manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) treatment. This non-invasive technique involves a series of very precise gentle massage movements that encourage cellular detoxifi¬cation. Lymphatic drainage is often used—and is highly effective—after cosmetic surgery (to reduce edema and decrease healing time). It is equally effective in chronic inflammatory skin conditions such as acne and rosacea. It may also result in improved tone, reduced puffiness and a boost in circulation that brings a glow to the skin. The benefits of MLD are cumulative. I am a Dr. Vodder certified Manual Lymph Drainage Neck & Face Esthetician, and most of my custom facials include this treatment.
